The bodies of water known as the Great South Bay Fire Island Inlet and offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean have long been known as a hot spot in the northeast fishery. When spring arrives it brings with it huge schools of menhaden and other bait fish followed closely by hungry striped bass weakfish bluefish and fluke. The waters are very clear and the action gets intense. It’s a great time for light tackle and reels scream as huge fish strip line. Generally weakfish run from 2 to14 pounds with the typical fish about 6 to7 pounds. Bass can be anywhere from scoolies to cows over 40 lbs.

As summer nears and the water temp's rise in late June fluke and other bottom dwellers become the inshore target and offshore the action turns to sharks, with Mako's and thresher the species of choice. At this time we offer trips to beautiful Fire Island, its lovely beaches and great restaurants. You can customize your charter to include some fishing and some sightseeing. as summer end's and the water temperature begins to drop fisherman get ready as large schools of bunker, shad and herring enter the bay triggering the spectacular fall run. Bass and blues gorge on this feast before there fall migration. Hundreds of gannets and other sea birds can be seen diving on bunker pods being ravaged by voracious bass and blues. Mako and thresher sharks are the closest they’ll be all year. Ocassionaly whale's and dolphin can be seen close to shore .Whatever the time of year there’s always something happening and at TakinUp Charters Capt. Jim will get you there.
